What’s the difference between the standard teaching approaches and the Connected Voice model?
- The Connected Voice approach involves releasing strain from the singer’s voice by creating a smooth, easy “connection” between a singer’s chest and head registers while keeping the home base vocal production of the larynx at “speech level”.
- Emphasize control over head voice, chest voice, mix and belt registration, while minimizing vocal strain.
- The goal is an approach to vocalizing that allows a singer to sing any note in their range with an enviable mix of power and ease with access to as many vocal “colors” as possible
- Our method also uses an “assist” approach rather than a “results” approach. What this means is that, for example, rather than asking a singer to place their tone somewhere specific like “the mask”, for example (which they often have no idea how to accomplish), we will guide the student into the tools they need to discover that feeling for themselves. Once they’ve experienced that feeling they may choose to describe it however they prefer.
- Often use healthy spoken sounds to quickly access sensations needed in different styles of music
- Use subtle word “respellings” to control vocal tone, ease and position of larynx.
- Quickly solve technical vocal issues with solutions that are easy for a singer to grasp and incorporate
- Give singers the tools to understand their voices on a deeper level so they can accomplish their individual goals
